Medical Mix-Up in Clinic for First-Time Mother

Imagine the moments leading up to the birth of a first child. During the last few months of pregnancy, it can be stressful on both the soon-to-be mother and father, but regular medical checks are preformed to make sure that the baby is safe and will be properly delivered. A mother’s worst nightmare came true, though, a month before she was expected to give birth.

In late June of 2017, a mother went into her doctors to get checked up on. Unfortunately, the front desk receptionist got her confused with another patient who had recently miscarried. This mix-up resulted in the patient who didn’t have problems being given a medication to induce labor. After taking the medication, the receptionist called her and asked if she had already taken the medication, and when she confirmed she already took the medication, the doctor brought her into an examination room. The doctor then proclaimed that if the pills were not removed, she would be going into labor a month early.

Though the medication was removed, some of it had already been absorbed. This means there is still a chance of something to go wrong before she gives birth. The doctor told her she will be fine, though there is no guarantee everything will go smoothly. After that, she went back to the office after she was called in, and as they were processing the information into their system, they mixed her up yet again. Currently, there have been no problems in the pregnancy. It can be scary, though, for a soon-to-be mother who has never gone through pregnancy before to be in this kind of situation.
