4 Safety Tips for New Drivers
New drivers are often at higher risks for accidents, especially ones who have only been driving for a matter of months. Besides the lack of experience, there are a lot of distractions that further aid the rising probability for an accident with a teen driver, sometimes even if it is not their fault. However, by reading these four tips, your new driver will be a lot less likely to be involved in an accident.
Keep the Cell Phone Off
Even if you do not text and drive, it is important to make sure the phone is off and away. This is because hearing a message or seeing it flash when a notification comes up may be just as distracting. It only takes one second for the eyes to leave the road to get into an accident.
Do Not Text and Drive
One of the main causes for teen accidents today is because the teen is distracted during their driving. The main cause of this distraction is typically resulting from the teen texting while driving. Not only is it illegal, but it is also very dangerous, and has resulted in many fatal accidents.
Obey the Speed Limit
The speed limit is there for a reason. Many teens, and adults for that matter, are in a rush to get wherever they are going. The result? Speeding. This, combined with new drivers who lack experience on the roads, can result in some very dangerous accidents, as they might not know how to react to certain situations while going at that speed.
Practice Defensive Driving
This does not mean to drive extremely slow and cautiously all the time, because this is also dangerous. What it does mean, though, is to always be aware of all surroundings. Stay at least one car length away from the next car, and be aware of cars near you.
